I used a hotel phone to call my card provider to advise a lost card (eaten by ATM). The number was a reverse charges number but it would not work from street phones so I used the phone at reception after explaining to them it was a free call. About 10 minutes later they advised that the call was several hundred rupe. I again explained. Some time later they said they had been able to check the call cost with the phone company and it was indeed a free call. The initial charges that they wanted were what their in house system registered.
