I did it. I went up to Ubud and gave myself to BAWA for a few hours.
My first job was to wash the puppies. Tiny little scraps of dog, fat bellies and huge ears, all very frightened and not keen on being washed in medicated shampoo and dried off, some howling as if the end was nigh, but none tried to bite me although I could feel their hearts beating furiously in their skinny bodies, many with nasty sores and leathery skin.
Next I entertained the dogs upstairs who took a while to get the idea that if the ball is brought back then she will throw it again but it was mostly me who did the fetching.
When the food came out some of the smaller ones had to be locked in a cage in order to get a chance at it.
Next we took some dogs for a walk on the rice field next door. Getting along the busy road was the trickiest part as the traffic was fast and close. I had a three legged dog. He really enjoyed the smells of the rice field and didnt really want to go "home".
It was all too short. This organisation is doing great work and you can find out more on their website. They need donations , food etc even newspapers for the pens. I havent told you about the kittens either...hold on to your hearts.
And yes, I went to the orphanage as well but that was another day and another story.
