I have a bit of a theory (GTAE) and it is loosely based on me old mate Darwin and his theory of the "Survival of the Fittest".
I have been a lurker on this forum for months and only just now started posting. I have recently returned from twelve wonderful days in Bali and I am missing the tropical warmth and sunshine but alas I have a temporary cure. As the mercury plummets in my own bit of Aussie paradise I have donned my "Flame Resistant Suit"(Red Adair RIP) prior to posting. This has a twofold purpose, it increases the heat and humidity to ideal Bali conditions yet hopefully prevents me getting badly flamed from the vitriol that is quite often present on the BTF.
Anyway back to my theory (GTAE) it is interesting to see that so many people are taking advantage of the cheap airfares on offer by all manner of carriers especially those flying from Perth. It is also interesting to note that flights appear to be cancelled from time to time, but what is really interesting is that flights from some carriers are departing with not too many bums on seats. This may be OK in the short term but it is certainly not sustainable. The price war we have happening is to get market share. The reason airlines are there in the first place is to make money and profit. I think that the long term scenario if this continues is that one or more airlines will go bust. The carriers that perhaps have larger fleets and more profitable routes may be able to fight off the competition by cross subsidising their loss making routes. When airlines are selling off seats as far out as October and November for a mere pittance then not IF but WHEN one of those airline companies crashes then not even 'Gepps Flame Resistant Suit'(patent pending) will prevent you from getting burnt!
