Since I am married to an Air Con guru I have had it drilled into me that you use more power turning your AC on and off all day than if you just left it on at 25+ degrees during the day/night.
I live in the North (Aust) so I am told this every wet season just incase I forget last years mantra. *roll eyes here*

We turn our AC off at night though when our temp drops below 25, Bali is different though as most hotels (that I have stayed in) don't have a window as such, usually just a door to the balcony and I dont think I can recall ever seeing a flyscreen on one so leaving your door open at night is a NO NO due to the mozzies/sandflies/tealeaves.

You use more power when you start adjusting the temp, say to below 24, as the compressor cuts in and out hence forcing the AC to draw more power as it is trying to keep the room at the selected temp.

25 degrees is the ideal temp.....they even have an ad on tv now saying so buy Horizen Power. How about that hey, husband was tlakig sense after all.

By turning your AC on flat out and at the lowest temp DOES NOT make your room cool down any faster, believe me I have tried it.........and when I saw my power bill I stopped.

Hope this helps.

AND I too have used a comb to keep the air con on while I am out :) and will continue to do so.
