you can take either cash or card with you to use over in bali. We would only change $30-50 aussie dollars just in case you need some rupiah between the airport and your arrival at your hotel in bali to buy a drink or something or pay the porters if you want them to carry your bags etc.
Don't throw your money away by exchanging it here or you will not have nearly enough shopping money when you get to Bali!!!
