and I would have both if you can. For that age I bought a bubba moe sling. They cost ~$70 new but I sold mine on ebay so you could maybe pick one up on there or at a baby market.
I don't know if you've seen the bubba moe but it had many uses when travelling and was brilliant.
- can be adjusted so you or hubby can use.
- it has a clip in type system so I also used it as a restraint in normal chairs if no high chair I would sit him on a cushion and then loop it round to back of chair to form a harness/restraint. Also alot of their baby chairs don't have harnesses so I would use the bubba. It can clip on to either the pram or your bag or I'd just roll it up and throw in bag.
- SOME of the transport we used had a split seat in the back, ie. a double bench seat then a single. I was able to wrap it around the seat to restrain him. Obviously not a proper child restraint but at least kept him in the one place instead of jumping all round the joint.
I made the mistake of not taking my pram at Xmas, he was 2 3/4. Thought I'd get away without it. BIG MISTAKE. He wouldn't walk anywhere (he was sick tho). Luckily my husband came over a few days later and brought it with him. He'll be 3 1/2 this trip and I'll still be taking it this time just in case.
Anyway, sorry to babble on, but just some thoughts on what I did. Good luck with whatever you decide! : )
