Indonesians do this well, with the "carry on the hip" trick, but not so good if you are not used to it.
I would take the stroller, and give it a go to see how it works out.
If it is a heavy duty pnumatic tyre job it will handle the conditions OK.
It will also provide some shade for the child.
Have the sling handy for occasions when it may be needed.
