Having a few would create more competition one would think, and if you don't want to use them you walk on by.
Having porters at the airport is surely not a problem?

Again, it is simply a matter of choice whether you want to use these guys or not.
The comments about VIP are valid.
If you choose to use this service, you will sidetrack many of the problems, perceived or otherwise.
If you don't want to use the service, that's fine too.
The manning of the desks is surely a simple matter to sort out, and if done so effectively, may impact on the operations of the VIP service, so maybe two birds with one stone?
Personally, I would far rather be landing at Denpasar than Perth, but this may be as much about the location as it is about the process.
