My cousin and I took advantage of the cheap fares from Brisbane to Bali with Pacific Blue and connected with flights from Syd and Melb. Never again! Spent a night in Bris as we were originally leaving at 0830hrs and then flight time changed to 1030hrs! Of course PB now fly direct from Syd so won't be doing the latter in a hurry again. Got charged $225 for excess (orphanage items) The crew had us pegged quickly and were quick to respond to the call for refreshments. We also sneaked a few of those little bottles of Baileys from duty free and along with those seated around us had a fun flight and a very excentric lady walking up and down the aisle staring at everyone throughout the trip provided entertainment. Arrived in Dempasar at 1430hrs to be met by 'Hadi' (vip/voa) I must say this was the best thing I have done to get out of that dreadful arrivals area. There were queues 15-20mtrs long at both the VOA desks and the Immigration desks. We had our documentation attended, cases retrieved and in the car within 15-20mins. I know this is a bone of contention with quite a few but it made such a difference that I will use it every time I go now. Our bags were not searched, just a cursory glance by customs even though we had cask of wine and drink bottles full of whisky and gin in our bags. Accommodation: Kuta Town Houses was our destination for 10 nights with a night in Ubud at Tegal Sari in the middle and 2 nights at the Mecure Sanur at the end. KTH was terrific with lovely, spacious and very clean apartments. The staff were so friendly, helpful and genuinely interested in us. Best ham and salad rolls ever, great atmosphere footy days, and good breakys. Loved the music from Andrews 30000+ songs (although someone has a thing for Bon Jovi!!) Had a great time watching the staff party for the 3rd Anniversary and the 'eel' races. Put one in bottle beside L's bed which could have been disastrous if she had decided to take a swig! Met some really interesting people, both visitors and expats who live here. And looking forward to renewing friendships next trip. Thought DennisC might have been a ghost until he was spotted one day leaving his unit! Had a terrific day watching the Cats beat the Dockers with many WA supporters there (Too Bad!!) My beloved Cats 2009 poster is now beautifully framed and up on the wall of the AFL room awaiting premiership status. Only thing I would say about KTH that could be improved would be some lounge cushions and earlier pool hours for lap swimmers. Did not see any pool noodles, no purple circles and all children there were well behaved. Tegal Sari was simply beautiful and though we only had a superior room found this perfect. We were on upper floor and had beautiful views of rice paddies and pond from balcony. Lovely pool and reasonable brekkie and they provided transport into Ubud anytime with 10mins notice. This room cost $43 with B'fast which is great value. Mecure' Sanur had lovely gardens and pool area and plenty of lounges on beach. The room we had was very musty smelling but a good size and clean, however the shower tiles looked like a bottle of bleach wouldn't go astray (not environmentally friendly, I know). We had dinner from their buffet one of the nights and a good bottle of red with a total cost of 990,000Rup. Food was varied and typical! Drinks here were very expensive.
