For those of you that have been following my JBRs closely over the past couple of weeks, I want to share with you some final words on Bali and how I rated the restaurants we went to.
RESTAURANTS
All the restaurants we went to in Bali were good except one.
I was going to rate them from best to worst but decided this was too difficult.
The quality of food was very good in all the places we went to and I wouldn't have a problem recommending any of the them. Quite often, the 'total dining experience', ambience, service, and whether or not Matt joined us would gain a restaurant extra points.
Our four dinner restaurants in Ubud were ALL excellent:
Siam Sally (Thai)
Cinta Grill (Indonesian/International)
Cafe des Artistes (Belgian)
Warung Enak (Indonesian)
If you put a gun to my head and said CHOOSE YOUR FAVOURITE it would be Cafe des Artistes.
Our best lunch in Ubud was at Three Monkeys.
Our four dinner restaurants in Sanur were:
Warung Sale e Pepe (Italian)
Caramel (International)
Triana (Spanish)
Kayu Manis Cafe (Italian)
The only one that didn't rate highly was Triana (see JBR part 8)
Again, if you put a gun to my head and said CHOOSE it would be Kayu Manis Cafe.
Our best lunch in Sanur was at Spirit Cafe.
The only other dinner restaurant we went to was Ultimo (Italian) in Seminyak and would have absolutely no problem recommending that place.
WHAT THE 'KIDS' THOUGHT OF BALI
In a nutshell, they just loved Bali and will most definitely return one day. It was a trip they probably wouldn't have done by themselves so it was very satisfying for me that they enjoyed it so much.
Four more Bali virgins converted......tick!
MATT
Finally, of course, I want to bring you all up to speed with Matt and how he's going with his condition.
As you know, this was his first visit to Bali.
For him to be so ill like this for the entire trip was surely the work of the devil and completely destroyed his holiday. In saying that, he really liked Bali and it's people and when he did step out he had a great time.
As I write this, Matt is still suffering badly and has been like this now for 5 weeks. As soon as we touched down in Adelaide, he admitted himself to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and stayed there for 2 weeks.
He has been home now for the past week and still has another week off work. He is still passing blood and they can't seem to stop it despite trying different medications. If this continues, the doctors are considering operating and removing the affected section of his colon. This is a last resort but becoming more and more likely.
I have been relaying all your get well wishes to Matt over the past couple of weeks. He is touched that so many people on this forum have shown such concern for him and he would like to thank you all.
MY LAST SAY
Writing this JBR, surprisingly for me has been fun, therapeutic and not the hard grind I thought it was going to be. It has been nice to share with you all and give back to this forum, just as I have taken over the months and years.
Naturally, I have printed these off and put them alongside my photos in the album and will refer to them fondly in years to come.
I hope I haven't bored you all to tears and would sincerely like to thank you all for your kind comments and words of encouragement.
