What I may think as a great hotel you may report back as a slum.
For example, I may think that the location, pool and comfy pillows must be the most important thing to look for in a 'good hotel', you on the other hand may think that the size of the room, restaurant and balcony may suit you best.
It is going to be hard to please everyone as a hotel may have all these qualities but what pleases each of our own expected standard is different.

I live in a tourist town and I have seen a hotel's demise in a very short period of time, it does happen. This doesn't just pertain to hotels......look at Indojet for instance.

I agree with you about a TA being up-to-date with their products but they do have a lot to contend with, it is a big wide world after all, unless this TA only specializes in Bali then you make a fair comment.
