After 2 weeks of cruising around Bali in our hire car we were returning from some serious diving when just south of the town when one of those lovely always smiling Balinese ( yes we all know one) well he turned in front of me and tried to take out my radiator whith his HEAD...and it didnt work hey! Well the ambo and police got there after 1 hour. The ambos took the not so smiling Balinese of to the hospital and the Police straight away said i was in the wrong even if my skid marks were well to the left of the road ( pictures and movie was taken ) just in case for later. The police were adamant that i was in the wrong and i was in big trouble and i would go to the police station with them So leaving the wife and other Balinese with the car (they had to wait for the hire car guy to arrive) off to the station we go straight to Denpasar they told me so i phoned my wife and told her to ring the tourist police and tell them where i was being taken .... At Denpasar the questions started and i said it was not my fault and i had photos to prove it in any court of law..NO MATTER was the reply for a donation of 20,000,000 it would all go away, I just blaughed as i was expecting that so a big NO was my reply i said i will wait for the tourist police to get here then we will sort it out ...Well talk about a back flip in walked the tourist police and i explained what happened showed him photos on my phone and it all went away EVEN the 50,000 for them filling out an insurance report....A cab to kuta to the hire place with my police report in hand to show the hire guys BUT ALAS they didnt actually have insurance on their cars SO another argument started mind you i was ready to rip somebodys freakin head off by this time The hire guys said to repair the car would cost 35,000,000 and i would have to pay it YEAH RIGHT like thats gonna happen i was told and it stated on the rental paper that they held insurance so a call to the tourist police again and they arrived and in 5 minutes flat it was sorted out i was told to pay nothing as it was not my fault so the moral of this story is be carefull and please phone their insurance to see if it is valid. And a quick question does anybody on the forum know of a reputable car hire firm as we are back to Bali in 47 more sleeps.
