I know a person who went to airport with 6 months and 7 days left on passport. Was going for 12 days. He was not allowed to board the plane. He was not refunded his airfare. His responsibility. Once it was a travel agents responsibility but now it is back on the individual. 10 days for a renewal is not long (My wife had hers done about 6 weeks ago.)
Just tried to check on the web regarding Australia and bali but the site is down for maintainence today.
