Unless you might enjoy getting around Jakarta at 3 in the morning, going anywhere in "The Big Durian" is time consuming. Traffic can be horrendous at times. The smog and pollution can be overwhelming for some, and the city's dirtiness can leave you wanting to shower 4 times a day.
However, tolerate the messy bits and you will be rewarded with what is an exciting, buzzing city that doesn't sleep, great food and cheap accommodation. Not a shopper as such myself so can't advise.
Definately do not try it in one day, or if you do, please give a detailed description, as it would lend itself to tremendous reading.
Just my opinion. Others may suggest you try.
