We stay at the Satriya every year (past 5 years) and March this year was our latest time, my mother also stays there and came back from another stay last week.
Great hotel, great location, great staff, nice pool and grounds not much more you could ask for from a 3 star hotel.
I cannot think what "nightclub" music could be heard as there are none at that end of Poppies II the only thing I can thing of is there is one on the beach street at the top of Poppies II but I can say I have never heard it.
As for the dark alley way, again the only thing I can think of is Poppies II itself. It can be dark if you are walking back from Legian street end but if thats a concern catch a taxi from Legian street all the way around the beach front and approach the Hotel from the beach end of Poppies II. We have walked back numerous times from Legian st and never had a problem, there used to be a few tree roots that you had to watch out for but they have all but gone.
The price of Bintang is 15,000 at the hotel (no tax to be added) and the meals both at the restaurant and the pool bar are great and well priced, again no tax is added.
Staff are always friendly and have been trained well. If something isnt to your liking just ask for assistance and generally the issue can be resolved.
They dont supply hairdryers or coffee making facilities (as this is only a 3 star) however the restaurant is open at 7am to grab one before breakfast or just purchase one from Matahari.
Breakfast is eggs any way you like cooked on request and there is usually bacon, sausages, fruit, ceral, and indonesian rice etc. Toast is cooked as needed (take vegemite if necessary) they supply the usualy Jam and Honey.
The pool area and pool bar is lovely and pool towels are provided. However if there are none there just ask and they will be provided. There are pool loungers and from mempory 3 - 4 tables and chairs with umbrella dotted around.
Rooms are cleaned well every day, and we have never had a problem with leaving anything luying around.
All in all I think Satriya is value for money in a great location.
Enjoy
