We visited Tegallalang last year and wandered/drove down the stretch, stopping where we saw something of interest. While they were definitely cheaper and haggling was easier (often not even needed) the variety wasn't really so different to anywhere else.
What we did notice was that every time we found a shop selling something really different, they were wholesale only and wouldn't sell retail.
Still, it was an interesting experience and we're planning on going again this year.
