Hi, I travelled to Bali last month and was given incorrect information in Malaysia, they said Indonesia had changed the rules and you now could take 2 x 1lt bottles in to Bali, they had it all typed on official documentation saying the law had changed only 2months earlier. Being a regular traveller into Bali, I coulndnt quite believe it, and so as there were 3 of us, we took 2 x 1ltr bottles into Bali with us - firstly be aware when you collect your suitcase, and look out for white chalk crosses over it - they will deffo stop you and check, tip, carry wipes to rub them off before you get your cases to customs! Anyway we did get stopped and was asked how many bottles we had, we told the truth, as in Malaysia we had been told that it was now ok, anyway they told us no way, we were breaking the law and we would have to surrender the excess bottles to be poured away - was taken into the office - and after one hour, explaining why we had more, and them definitely saying they would take it! and pour it down the sink. I demanded to watch them do it, they then changed tact and said I could take it through on this occassion. No money changed hands but it was pretty hair raising! I think that I speak conversational Indonesian and some Balinese helped - good luck if you decide to try it!
