I get extremely painful ears on descent and I have tried the plugs and antihistamines and dont find either of them work at all. Apparently grommets will fix the problem but as I only fly a couple of times a year I am giving the procedure a miss. I feel sorry for your poor daughters, it really is painful. Mine feel like they are going to burst.
In Bali they have Guardian Pharmacy's everywhere now as well as local Apotiks and you can get basically everything you require there. The only specialised stuff I take is my panadeine forte for migraines and like you codral cold and flu just in case.
