when you get to Ulawatu, guides will try to attach themselves to you.. to ward of monkies. You dont really need one but they can be hard to get rid of. Just make sure you take off earrings, sunnies etc and keep you handbags closed. And best not to feed them if you dont want to look for trouble. The monkies that is. I may be wrong but I have a feeling the guides may get a commission if they accomany you to the ticket booth for the dancing. One time when I told a persistent guide I wasnt going to be paying him as he wasnt needed, we were just going to the dancing, he wanted to accomany us for free. However as we were actually a bit late we decided to give the dancing a miss and he was quite annoyed and ended up insisting on being paid and was pretty pissed off at Rp10,000. Another time when we did go to the dancing and again a guide insisted on walking us to it... we had a different colour ticket to some people. It wasnt a local and tourist price as it was mostly tourists that had two different colours. I had heard the dancing was Rp30,000 but we paid Rp50,000. As it was a group of 6 of us and I was paying that made it an extra Rp120,000 - if it was a case of paying more with a guide. I would be interested to know how much other people have paid and if that was with or without a guide walking them to the dancing and the ticket table.
