We have driven around Bali and gave ourselves 5 days to do a trip. We left Legian and headed for Medewi the first night, then we drove to Gillamanuk and then around to Lovina, we stayed the night here. Then we drove around to Amed and stayed the night. Then back to Singaraja and then over the mountains via Kintamani to ubud where we spent the last 2 nights.
We hire a car and we don't book accomodation, this allows you to vary your schedule depending on the places and how you like it. I think if you take a driver some hotels have somewhere for them to sleep.
