We have just returned from our 13th trip to Bali. Had a fantastic time as always. Bali just gets better every year. Can't wait till next year. Legian continues to grow and the restaurants are fantastic. The Melasti Beach Resort, however, did not unfortunately deliver many of its claims that we were expecting, especially given its recently increased price. We have stayed at many hotels in Bali, and this was not good value, even on old prices. The favourable comments on this forum would seem mainly to be from those who have stayed here many times over previous years, and must have good memories of fun times, but honestly, this place is seriously neglected and is in need of some basic improvements, which could definately make it great again. The older pool area is a safety hazard in too many ways to mention. It is quite simply a death trap! We witnessed four separate incidents in two days at this poorly negected area. I myself almost went A over T on the plastic rollers around the pool edges. An elderly lady did the same and it really stuffed up her holiday the poor soul. We witnessed another child slice his foot on the sharp concrete edges. The staff cared less at the time for both! The concrete and tiles around the pool are broken and displaced , as are many of the walkway pavers, and a serious hazard for all, especially children. I wonder how long the rotting concrete bridge over that pool will hold before a tragic collapse! The power conduit that must run through the walkover to the rotting centre island, surrounded by water is also a real cocern. All this place needs is a little bit of $ spent on it to make it basically safe, but it is obvous that safety is of no priority. The staff were always courteous, but never seemed happy. We saw many at the front desk being given dismissive answers to basic questions. When our hot water failed, we had to ring 5 times, and only after asking for the General Manager's phone number did we receive any attention. The Staff were always more genuinely happy at shift end, which may be an indication of how management treats them at the current time. Some staff, particularly at the breakfast area were downright rude and disinterested, which is not Bali at all!. We stayed in a cottage suite, which was absolutely huge, and although in need of refurbishment, were very comfortable. Great for families. When the owners of this place finally get their act into gear and make it safe, and we will be happy to return and recommend. In the meantime, there are much better run, cleaner, safer and cheaper places with more freindly staff available close by. Great location, poor value, pool is a death trap. Breakfast was passable, although bacon is only served twice a week. There is an egg man, toast, and a daily assortment of the basic rice, noodle, sausages and potatoes/vege dishes. Cereal, juices and some pasties/cakes. Room service is reasonably priced, however everything comes from the restaurant located at the beach end, and is very average quality, so if you are in a room in the main wing near reception, it will surely be cold by the time it gets to you.
