Initially I searched the internet for some maps (Mic's web site has quite a few). I printed these off and, coupled with the basic maps found in travel brochures, manage to find most of the streets or Jalans referred to on the forum.
Some people refer to a place as being across the road from 'such and such' or near 'whatever' and some of the maps (from Mic's site) are helpful in that they have notations for existing restaurants or landmarks that can give you an idea of the area. Last visit I acrually bought a fold out map from the bookstore in Discovery Mall but I think you can also purchase these at the airport.
It is useful to know that some streets are either known colloquially by other names or in fact change names at different places. If you just make a note of these as people mention them it all falls into place eventually.
I'm sure if you search this forum you will find the web details for Mic's if you don't already have it bookmarked. I find it very, very useful.
