Shoe size help please?

Hi folks, don't know if anyone can help me, but I have friends in Lovina who have a school aged boy. I want to get some school shoes for him if possible? I have been advised that in Bali the shoe size would be Size 42. I need to know the corresponding size of shoes here in Australia please? And what would be the best sort of shoes to get for him - Joggers/sandshoes/or leather laceup shoes? Thanks for any advice in advance. Cheers Cheryl
