It depends on the exchange rate between the $A and the $US.
In January this year I offered a $A50 note and I was charged $A42 for the visa. They gave me change in Rupiah using an exchange rate of Rp 7,000 = $A1. This was the same rate offered by the Airport Moneychangers. Next day in Kuta, I changed money at Rp 7,200 = $A1.
Currently the $US1 = $A0.80 and Rp 8,000 = $A1. You will be getting more Rupiah change from your $A50 note than I received in January
