Transfers or Driver - Kuta to Ubud

Hi Everyone,
We are heading to Bali in mid september. We are staying in Kuta for the first two nights then heading to Ubud for 5 nights.
Just wondering how people usually get up there? We havent booked any accomodation and are thinking about homestaying...
Do you usually get a driver there or is it safer to pre book transfers?
