Sponsoring - Help needed?

Hi,

I am in the process of collecting all relevant information for sponsoring Bali friend to visit Australia. There are several of us who will be sponsoring our friend. Is it necessary for our bali friend to provide a bank statement of their own account with suffient money if we will be covering all expensises, accommodation etc whilst in Australia.
Please anyone with info ?
