We bought quite a wooden things from Geneva. My friend and I both came through customs separately and two of her things got confiscated but mine were allowed through even though they were exactly the same items. One was a little musical chime thing that looked like it was made out of skin... my officer said sure you can keep it - it's not skin, whereas my friend's officer said it's skin and confiscated it. Last year I bought one of those bird house windchimes and got it through no problems - this year they took my friend's off her. It just depends on whether you get an over zealous customs person as to what you get through. Whenever I buy wood things I always shake and bang them on something to see if anything drops out. It also doesn't hurt to give them a spray with insect repellant when you get it back to your hotel. Honestly, for the few dollars that these things cost I think it's worth it to try and get them back if you like them. We loved Geneva and spent ages just browsing around.
