Ubud is unique for shopping. There are many boutique-type shops - it's sort of like a small version of Seminyak without the high prices. You won't find the bintang singlets etc there except maybe in the markets. But even the markets have different things from down in the Kuta etc area.
Monkey Forest Rd has masses of lovely shops, ditto Jl Hanoman and the road between them joining MF Rd at the soccer field.
The food is excellent there, too.
