The fact is that young people from Maroubra are labeled in the one category. I know a group of young surfers from Maroubra who are going to Bali soon and will say they are from somewhere else if they are asked because of the few idiots that are Bra Boys and the Bra Boys label imposed on inocent surfers just because they come from Maroubra.They shouldnt have to do this, they should be proud of where they come from.
Everytime that someone from Bondi, Cronulla etc. plays up in Bali is the whole suburb named and shamed.. no! If you don't think their are surf groups on every beach in Sydney that claim tribal rites and play up in Bali you are very niave. The movie put them on the map to an audience who otherwise would never have know about them or Maroubra as a suburb.
The way Maroubra is potrayed in the press is like it is gang warefare on the beach. These few idiots playing up come from Maroubra and put a tattoo on their back claiming some sort of status. Nobody outside their group in Maroubra holds any respect for what a few idiots within their group with a tattoo have to say,and as I said earlier, some Bra Boys do not cause trouble. So perhaps your over emphasised statement above would be a better choice of words. "AUSTRALIAN THUGS CAUSE HAVOCK IN BALI" along with the English, Russian, American thugs etc.
