..it might sound that way to you, that doesn't change anything. Generally Balinese find it rude to be addressed by their real names, but if you put Pak or Ibu in front of it, it becomes a bit less rude. I meet more and more people who introduce themselves directly, but it's still not the norm. Previously, these names were given to indicate social/familial status, and as such were expressely meant to be NON-personal. Nyoman Sudah will ask you to call him Nyoman precisely because it is not his own name, but one he shares with a group.
