respect, when it is very different to other cultural. After living in Bali for a while now I have had to come to terms with what I believe from growing up in Australia is disrespectful is not always considered disrespectful by the Balinese and then there are the Javanese. When they got involved with the bodies after the bombing I was horrified of how disrespectful they were to our Aussies that had died but had to shut my mouth as the Jakarta authorities were Muslim and they were doing what in their culture was respectful.
For example, our relative offered a refrigerated truck to put as many bodies in to keep the out of the sun. The Hindu police started placing them in, then the Jakarta army pulled them out as the truck was not 'holy' and it was disrespectful to put them anywhere but on holy ground. This has upset me for years as because they were in charge it was what they believed was respectful. I thought keeping those poor peoples bodies out in the blazing sun is disrespectful but there was nothing we could do.
Sometimes we have to just accept that people are not being disrespectful in their eyes and that we are all different and we may never understand another cultural but we have to be strong enough to let it go,otherwise wars start of over this stuff.
