Hi Janine
Heatherbelle is right, the nearest accommodation is Toya bunkah. We stayed at the Lakeside Cottages last year. It is only a 5 minute drive to Songan and the location is brilliant, right on the lake.
The rooms are clean enough, but very basic. The food menu was also fairly basic, but what we had (nasi goreng) was good and extremely cheap. If you just want a day visit to Songan, Heatherbelle's idea of staying in Ubud would be the best option,it's a nice drive with plenty to see on the way, but if you want to have a longer look around the Songan area, Lakeside Cottages would be OK, just don't get your expectations too high. You could try the Batur climb, it was fantastic. Lunch at Kintamani has great views, but not so great hawkers. From what we saw, we wouldn't bother with the hot springs.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Rodger
