We were eating dinner at Warung Hanafi just along from Gateway of India at Bemo corner. Oh, opposite the start of Jln. Mataram actually. Just a small warung but very good food.
Whilst waiting for our food we were watching the man at the Ayam Goreng Warung next door making what he explained was his new recipe for toasted chocolate sandwiches. He takes one piece of bread and spreads it with jam, then chocolate sprinkles adds another piece of bread (homemade bread he said) and then toasts it over coconut husks on both sides. Oh, I think he brushes it with oil or melted butter or something before toasting too. Next step more jam on top and more chocolate sprinkles and I think I may have detected a generous dribble of condensed milk. Serve with a flourish.
Of course Brian couldn't resist so after dinner he tried the delicacy and pronounced it delicious. (well why wouldn't it be given the ingredients?) He was doing a really brisk takeaway trade to passing motorbike riders.
It was at this point he told us of his skill in Aura reading and that he could see we had a very happy aura but he must warn us, with apologies, that he could see a little heart problem for Brian and maybe something in the stomach area for me. We thanked him profusely for the reading and the chocolate sandwich and left.
It wasn't until halfway back to the hotel that the humour of it struck us. I mean heart trouble for somebody who has just consumed a days calories in one hit and all in the form of a chocolate sandwich? Surely not. Then something in the stomach region for somebody who refused the said chocolate sandwich on grounds of diabetes. You've just got to love Bali moments haven't you?
