There is a Perama bus service to Ubud from their office in Jalan Legian in Kuta for Rp 40,000. For an additional Rp 10,000 per passenger, they will pick you up from your hotel.
Locals do not use Perama, only tourists.
If you want to travel with the locals, ask your taxi driver to drop you off at the Batubulan Bus Terminal, 6 km north of Denpasar.
When you get out the taxi, tell the touts that you want to go to Ubud. They will put you on a bus. The bus will only leave when the bus is full. Ask a local passenger what is the normal fare to Ubud (harga biasa).
