When I was checking Virgin flights recently I found DPS-MEL was not available on one way. However, the flights were available if you booked both ways.

I'd say the system was set up to discourage us from doing that.

Virgin MEL-DPS flight times are better than Jetstar but we prefer the seating configuration on Jetstar.
