If you are not an early riser read no further.

Somebody made a posting recently about finding The Real Bali.

I'm not sure how you define that but this may go a small way to help.

We love the traditional markets and I am not talking here about T shirts, watches, paintings etc etc. What I am talking about are the markets where the Balinese Mum's go to shop to sustain the family needs.

Singarja market opens at 5am ( shock horror ) but the friut and veggie blokes have rocked up well by then waiting for the magnificent rear gates to be opened.

There is literally a great mob there both sellers and buyers. It is an absolutely magic experience. The ambience is fabulous. You will be welcomed, you will be greeted and you will be smiled at, there will be curious looks and you will be questioned as to where you are from etc etc.

At the top of the steps on the left hand side of the rear gates, right on the corner your senses will be will be teased with cooking aromas such as you can only find in Bali. The fried bananas and coffe there are a breakfast to savour, enjoy and remember. You will only need small change for this epicurean delight, but if you are anything like us you will gladly hand over 10,000 and forget the change.

On the two occasions that we have attended we were approached by a Holy Man, who on the second occasion turned it into another return of the Prodigal Son or another coming from Lazarus. You will get a fully complimentary guided tour ot the market and be introduced to every man jack and his dog. I am always absolutely amazed at the memories the Balinese have for faces.

If you sleep in on your holiday you are missing out on an absolute treat.

A question for who has overnighted in Lovina. Ever seen the dolhins ?
