Although trying many different places on Bali, Ubud is our favourite
destination. We have come to Bali every year since 1989 and have stayed in Ubud probably 15 or 20 times. In the last few years we have managed a trip twice a year.We have tried many different hotels, some recommended on this forum. Never had a bad hotel yet in Ubud but some better than others. Normally we stay in a hotel once and look for a diferent one during our stay. We were lucky enough to wander into Kajane Mua 3 trips ago and this hotel took our fancy. We booked it for the following year and have stayed there three times in a row.
It is situated next to Cafe Wayan on Monkey Forest Road.
We stayed in a villa with private pool (Beji Gita)ideal for honeymooners. We are used to friendly staff in Bali but the staff here are the best. They must take lessons in remembering guests names.
For a small hotel (20 rooms) there are 5 cars to take guests around.
Breakfast and afternoon tea on your verandah and within walking distance of restaurants shops etc.
They have a restaurant fronting Monkey Forest Road which on our first trip was rather limited in menu and not as good as it could be.
We were asked what we thought of the food and much to my wife's embarresment I suggested they could do better. This was
taken on board and the next trip there was a marked improvement.
The last trip was an eyeopener. They have added Japanese food and Pizzas and is now in our opinion one of the best restaurants in Ubud.
When I commented that the beer in most restaurants was not cold enough for my liking they served it in an ice bucket since.
Another favourite is Cafe des Artistes in Jalan Bisma. The steak there is great. If you are into organic food try Organik Restaurant in the ricefields. Only accessable by foot or motorbike, but the most
magnificent position of any. Ony a 10 minute walk from Jalan Raya near the quaduct past Gusti 2 hotel. Bumbu Bali was disappointing, but some people like it. We had a look at a new hotel Beji in Sangingan near Neka museum. Well worth a look.
Next trip to Lombok and Bali in September.
