We just returned from a month in Bali and spent our first week at the Jayakarta. I stayed there 15 years ago (when it was Kuta Palace as well). The hotel is great. The pools wont have changed much and the main buildings are a little tired, but it is fine, not run down, acutally very busy. We stayed in the Residence in a private apartment, which was a really good option. You can look at the web site and book direct with the owners, represents great value. The web site is: www.puketoki.com. Easy to deal with, very smooth. You get 1,2 or 3 bedroom apartments at the front of the property. Not on the beach or near the pools, but an easy walk through the well maintained gardens. The rooms are modern and clean. We did not check out the hotel rooms, so cannot comment, but other guests staying there said they keep returning. We had a look at the breakfast buffet one morning, but did not have it, as we were running late and not much was left. We did not think the breakfast looked like a stand out, but there were so many great restaurants on the beach near the property that we preferred to go there - especially Zanzibar (recommend the potato hash browns!). The location is great as you know and it really wont have changed much to when you were there. It is just fine.
