As the owners of the Irish Bar we would like to respond to your article and firstly say how deeply shocked and sorry we were to find out that your friends drink was spiked at our bar.
The day after the dreadful attack we as well as the other business owners on the island had a meeting to discuss measures to be put in place to ensure that this does not happen to anyone else. It was agreed that extra island security be employed and that along with the head of the 3 islands a public announcement be made by the mosque informing the local community.
For our part we have had meetings with our staff to explain the severity of the situation, warn them of the physical symptoms of what to look out for when someones drink has been spiked and to be extra vigilent of young single girls drinking at the bar.
We have already put up notices to warn our customers of the potential threat of having their drink spiked and suggested that other businesses do the same.
Unfortunately we can not reply to your comments regarding the reaction of the resort in which you stayed but please be aware that we as a community are doing everything that we can to make sure that what happened to your freind does not happen to anyone else.
