Luckily, they gave us an upgrade without us paying for it. I don't know why but didn't ask or cause a fuss! ha. Actually, when I booked it, I asked that my preference would be for a ground floor room and as they didn't have any of the standard rooms on the ground floor, I guess they gave us the cottage.
Would I pay the extra? Personally, I probably wouldnt. I havent seen the normal rooms but in my experience of hotel rooms, the cottages are basically the same. You get a room with a bed in it and a couple of chairs, thats it. The bathroom is the same as any room, albeit a bit old and tired - shower over the bath etc. The good thing about the cottages, however, is that they are nearly stand alone, ie they are attached to one other only PLUS you are probably closer to the pool and the sea, as opposed to the hotel rooms which are further back from the sea. They have a nice little verandah out the front with a couple of chairs and a table so that's nice too if you smoke or want to sit outside and enjoy the scenery or listen to the ocean etc. The price difference is quite a bit so I'm not sure that I would pay it. If it was only $10 or so, I would go for it. That's my view, others may have different views. Beast likes the cottages (and in fact, he specifies which cottage) so he may disagree with me.
Cheers and good luck.
