The local lemon is slightly larger than a golf ball, they are round, and the skin stays green. The flesh can go a slightly orange colour. Jeruk nipis is a close relative to yellow western lemons, and tastes pretty much the same.

Jeruk limau is the really small lime that has the distinct lime flavour and is used in cooking and some drinks (and often served sliced with banana pancakes).

If you see yellow western style lemons then these will be imported and very expensive (think what you pay for them here and double it) - also you will not likely see imported western lemons out of the lemon season as the price just gets too high for it to be viable.

You can bring any fruit into Indonesia - the customs guy may ask you for some but just smile and explain it is a special gift for a sick friend and they will leave you alone.
