You can use regular nail polish on all gel nails. They just use regular polish to paint the flowers with, and usually it's over another colour, unless you want it just on your clear nails.
As Chris said though, don't let them at you with the polish remover. I have UV gel overlays and I intend on taking my own non-acetone polish remover next trip. I won't be getting 'manicures' as such because it involves filing, which could damage the seal of the gel to my nails - and also because they use remover as a cleanser after doing the manicure itself and before polishing. I'll just get the polish and flowers done and remove them myself before I go back for the next visit.
Your nail tech should have told you it's ok to use nail polish on your nails.
