we always take extra. Only once have we had to pay duty. We had 5 or 6 bottles of wine + 2 bottles of duty free spirts and had to pay $50.00 "duty".
We don't take any sprits now just wine and usually 4 - 6 bottles between 2 of us. They seem more worried about spirits than wine.
Last trip in Dec my Friend took a 3 litre cask and had to pay $20.00.
I think sometimes it's just luck of the draw, however you must always be ready to accept the fact that you may have to pay "duty" or have it confiscated.
I only usually bring in $10-$12 bottles of wine...I figure if I have to pay $10 per bottle duty it still only works out at $20-$22 per bottle compared to say $40+ per bottle in Bali. At the same time if they confiscate it, I haven't lost musch money either.
If they see the wine in the luggage when they xray it they will chalk mark your bag with a big white cross and sometimes the number of bottles they have seen with the x-ray...(eg if you had 2 bottles in a case they would mark it X2)
Hope this helps.
