Have a read through the posting by mandurahgal, it is very apt and correct. The advice from the forum is invaluable for a 1st time traveller.
I have stayed at the Melasti and never had any problems, you will get yobbos wherever you go, but there are plenty of other lovely travellers to make up for them.
I feel safer in Bali than in OZ and I have been 28 times.
Go and enjoy yourselves and you will become a bali addict.
