there is some truth being said on here...exactly as said the airport was not signed until 2006...the commitment was for 2010 completion. There was never any conspiracy for a dry state...yes it was aimed at arabs but never as that...quite the opposite actually. I have a friend fairly high up with Emaar and Lombok was destined to be a fairly eco friendly resort area. Thats it...no stricty muslim anything...by the way it already is. The Sasaks are a very strong people that will not be told what to do by anyone and are really religious people, but not at all fanatical.I also firmly believe that Emaar was far more ecologically aware, and culturally sensitive than the bloody western sharks that have been circling for the past two years. I for one am very sad for the locals who had hoped to have some financial stabilty finally, but I'm really happy "my" Lombok stays for a little while longer.
