Not everyone goes to Bali each year or more frequently. You were obviously 'Lambs to the Slaughter'. Kuta is notorious for this behaviour/harrassment of European vacationers. I have European friends who will not return to Bali because of this shock/stress. This is why there are so many European vacationers in Sanur. The Balinese are the world's experts on reading character, body language and eye contacts. Kuta is not Bali. If you ask on this Forum, experienced people will explain how to deal with hawkers, where to go to avoid them and how you can further appreciate Beautiful Bali without getting offended or harrassed. You will be delighted.
