we take out our Australian provider SIM card and take the phone to the stands outside Bintang supermarket and they set it up for us.
We got a 100000rp card, (at the time about $13), which lasted for the whole trip.
We rang the hospital where my mother was, our home which was being minded by one of Marks kids and a few other people in Australia. not sure how long altogether but it was quite a period of use.
We also texted and rang people locally.
Still had some credit on the phone after 4 weeks of use.
You need to have a phone which you can take out the card tho, we bought ours specifically to do that, ie. not contracted to any provider.
Should look into it more for the next trip Auds, really was worth it.
