Having lived in both cities I understand why people like or dislike them. It doesn't worry me if people visit Perth and bag it. What gets up my nose is people who move here then constantly complain about it or try to change it to 'back home'. If you don't like it - why did you move here in the first place? Alot of us LOVE the fact that it is not like everywhere else!... But we digress.

Further to your speculation. Bali is a cheap destination from WA. Our young people can afford a holiday there before other destinations. Young people like to party, so young Perthites head for Kuta. There are plenty of WA people MY AGE that prefer the quieter villages.

Conversely Europeans party in Spain and Greece I suppose. Their reason for travelling halfway around the world to Bali would be different - hence they end up in the quiter villages of Sanur and Ubud(for the culture and sightseeing).

Anyways, that's my theory.
