those rubber soled velco strap sandals. Ugly but very comfortable!! They don't seem to be as popular as they once were! There are many cheaper copies of them around now but they were the brand to have many years ago!!!
Like another poster, I didn't go fast enough on the bike to worry about falling off and hurting myself. I may have grazed a toe but with 3/4 pants and short sleeves I think my feet were the least of my worries if I did fall.
