Hi Gill by open do you mean in regards to how private they are?
The Pondok Ayu is a large two level, square building opposite a one level villa with a pool in the middle. The whole complex is surrounded by high walls and it has an isolated feel to it, but in a nice way that makes it feel special,we booked all four rooms with family and felt like we had a huge villa.
The grounds and pool area are more than large enough for for the four rooms and it is well set out so that each room is very separate from the others with a big stairway between the rooms, so there are no common walls for rooms on the same floor.
Upstairs rooms are more private as no one can walk past, if you are on the down stairs veranda people could see you but no more than any other hotel.
The rooms themselves are big, roomy and very clean, pool was sparkling and food was great, most people say it's not far to walk to the beach but it was further than we were prepared to walk.
Cheers Deb.
